Hilltoppers look to rise after winless season

There is but one way things can go for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in 2010. After going through all of 2009 and not tasting the thrill of victory, one could definitely argue things could not get any worse.
An 0-12 season, an 0-8 record in the Sun Belt Conference. Not exactly the type of the season anybody likes to enjoy.
The good news for WKU is that season is now history. It’s 2010, and as kickoff approaches, the Hilltoppers are excited about their prospects for improvement. Nine starters are back on both sides of the ball, and WKU has to think that experience will translate into better results on the field.
The Hilltoppers got more competitive as last season wore on: After losing eight of their first nine games by double-digits, the Hilltoppers’ final three losses were by three, six and four points, respectively.
WKU kicks off the 2010 schedule Sept. 4 at Nebraska. Following a road game at Kentucky, the Hilltoppers play their home opener Sept. 18 against Indiana.
